In Michigan, a few weeks back we had the most fun surprising my husband’s side of the family with the news that we are pregnant with our third baby! That same night we shocked everyone again by telling them we were going to do a gender reveal right then and there!! Literally, my inlaws and our cousin, Tricia, who runs, Inky Planner, were the only ones that knew we were pregnant out of about 40 relatives.

Since this will likely be our last baby, and we have never had a gender reveal party before, we thought it would be fun to do a reveal if we could share it with one side of our family. My family lives in Seattle, Washington and most of my husband’s family lives in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, so we are the only ones in Chicago, Illinois. We had the perfect opportunity to plan a little impromptu reveal when all the relatives were already planning to get together in Michigan over a long June weekend.

Although I was fairly certain we were having a boy (based on how similar my body felt to when I was pregnant with Peter), it was such an amazing surprise to share with everyone, and I’m so grateful that Tricia was able to make it so special for us. My husband and I didn’t want to know beforehand, so our doctor called Tricia directly to tell her the that we were having a boy. From there, Tricia did the rest and completely impressed me by her adorable “It’s a…” box! We also had soft pink and blue drizzled cake pops, which everyone bit into to find blue filling in the middle.

We are so thrilled to be having a boy!! Our little boy is going to perfectly round out our family. It just how I grew up with an older and younger brother… so I know Caroline will be well protected and have built-in best friends!

All in all it was a terrific night of fun and laughter! Too bad we had to leave the family party a little early to put the kids down for bed. I miss the days when Caroline would go to sleep anywhere in her pack’n’play, but soon we will have that again with the new baby. And we can stretch bedtime for the two older kids on special occasions. If it was up to Peter, he would love to stay all night and play with the older cousins.

Oh and some of you may have seen the below photo in my Instagram stories, but right after I got Caroline all ready for the party, I ran downstairs to dress Peter. In the two minutes that I did that, Caroline had climbed up the tall dresser, pulled down my makeup bag and found the brightest pink MAC lipstick I own. This was the result… and it took 30 minutes to wash it all off in the shower with baby oil and soap. Miraculously, with a lot of help from my mother-in-law, we were able to get all the pink out of this darling Ralph Lauren dress she was supposed to wear to coordinate with us – notice the navy and white theme 😉 Perhaps it is best we aren’t having another girl… I’m not sure my husband could handle all the cosmetics and products!
